Discovering East Africa by Road. Maureen Stover has travelled extensively in East Africa. "During the time I have spent in Kenya and Tanzania it was only by road that I felt that I could get a real sense of the country and its people. The first thing you must know is that the roads are really bumpy and rather potholed but youll be amazed how your driver manages to negotiate most of them. I found that it is only by road that you can see the villages, the markets and the East African people. On one specific occasion when I was traveling from Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater I clearly remember that we over took a Gas Truck; theyd put two extra-large bunches of green bananas just above the wheel arches so that the bananas would ripen!" East Africa Safari Vehicles |
| On this page we show you the various types of vehicles that different tours utilise. Each of the vehicles is customised for safaris and therefore has large windows or a popup roof for easy game viewing. If you are in any doubt which vehicle a specific tour uses then please contact your Go2Africa consultant. | ||||
Safari Minibus![]() Most safaris in East Africa are conducted in these safari minibuses. With large pop-up roofs they are designed for wildlife viewing and photography. Although equipped with nine seats the vehicles only seat seven people, ensuring you a window seat! |
4x4 Safari Vehicles![]() Selected safaris in Tanzania use sturdier 4X4 vehicles. These either have pop-up roofs or no sides. They are used when the terrain requires a more rugged vehicle. They have space for luggage and are designed to get you from A to B. |
Fly-in Safaris![]() Join a fly in safari and you'll fly directly to a specific lodge. The planes can vary from small single engine airplanes to larger twin engine planes (as shown in the image). Please note that luggage space is limited. Speak to your Go2Africa consultant for packing tips. |

Game Drive Vehicles![]() For our fly-in safaris you will be flown directly to the lodge and will use their game drive vehicles. Rugged and tough, these vehicles will get you to some of the more remote game viewing areas. This picture shows a Kichwa Tembo game viewing vehicle. |
