Gorillas in Parc National des Volcans
A 4-day safari which starts and finishes in Kigali This safari goes to Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in the misty Virunga volcanoes where about 350 mountain gorillas make their home. There are four habituated gorilla families. You can track gorillas, climb a volcano, visit the Karisoke Research Centre, which Dian Fossey set up, or go for walks around the picturesque villages near Volcanoes PNV Camp.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 :Parc National des Volcans Met on arrival at Kigali airport and transfer into town for lunch. Afterwards depart north through the beautiful terraced hillsides that characterise much of Rwanda's landscape, gradually climbing to the base of the Virunga volcanoes. Overnight Volcanoes Virunga Lodge. Meals : LD Accommodation : Volcanoes Virunga Lodge Day 2: Parc National des Volcans An early start takes you to Kinigi to track in the Parc National des Volcans. The journey north goes through the beautiful terraced hillsides that characterise much of Rwanda’s landscape, gradually climbing to the base of the awesome volcanoes, sometimes with as many as five peaks visible. Tracking the gorillas through the forest requires patience and stamina, sometimes walking for a few hours in the mud and wet. Finally coming across them in the undergrowth though is an inspiring moment. Meals : FB Accommodation : Volcanoes Virunga Lodge Day 3: Parc National des Volcans Either go gorilla tracking in the Parc National des Volcans (on payment of supplement at time of booking), climb the Visoke volcano, trek to Karisoke Research Centre which Dian Fossey set up, visit local communities, or simply relax at Camp. O/N: Volcanoes PNV Camp Meals : FB Accommodation : Volcanoes Virunga Lodge Day 4: Kigali Leave for Kigali. Time permitting, go for a tour of the city including a visit to the market, the Franco-Rwandan cultural centre and a genocide memorial. Transfer to the airport for your flight.
