An 8-day Tanzanian adventure safari perfect for kids to learn about the wonders of Africa.

Spend 8 days exploring African villages, coffee and banana plantations, elephant caves, the legendary Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Gorge.

Children can get involved in numerous fun activities during the trip such as mountain biking, a coffee factory visit, camping in Africa's greatest wilderness - the Serengeti, viewing members of the Big 5, playing soccer with the local children and visiting a school to exchange ideas and make new friends.

Day 1: Explore Tarangire's Coffee Plantations


Meet your guide in Arusha for the start of your safari. He has been specially chosen for his love of children and his ability to spark their imagination.

Head towards Tarangire - about 4 hours' drive - and pass through the Masai Steppe, home to many traditional African villages and incredible coffee and banana plantations.

Drive on through the Great Rift Valley escarpments towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Arrive at Gibb's Farm just in time for lunch. Activities at Gibb's are flexible so you can spend the afternoon reading a book or admiring the vegetable and herb gardens in the farm. Children can learn how to milk the cows or spend some time caring for the piglets.

Day 2: Discover Elephant Caves & Waterfalls


Rise early and after a wholesome breakfast spend the morning taking a guided scenic walk to the elephant caves and waterfalls.

After lunch visit the intriguing Iraqw Centre close by - the 'Iraqw' are an ethnic and linguistic group based in the Mbulu District of Arusha Region in north-central Tanzania, above the Rift Valley wall and south of the Ngorongoro Crater.

Alternatively, other fun activities for the whole family to enjoy are mountain biking, a fascinating visit to a coffee factory, cooking lessons or even a school visit to make some new friends. Spend the evening at Gibb's Farm.

Day 3: Picnic in the Forest


After breakfast make your way from Gibb's to the Olmoti Crater near the village of Nainokanoka. Here take a tranquil stroll through picturesque montane forest to the rim of this shallow crater.

You may even get to observe herds of cattle and plains game grazing in front of you while you enjoy a fabulous picnic lunch near a lovely waterfall.

Then it's off to the Ngorongoro Crater and your lodge - strategically located on the crater rim. Watch the sun set over this stunning wilderness area from the comfort of your balcony. Spend the night at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 4: Drive Through Ngorongoro Crater


This morning travel by 4x4 to the Ngorongoro Crater - generally known to be the world's largest wildlife zoo - for a full day of amazing game viewing and a picnic lunch with a difference.

One of the 7 natural wonders of the world, the Ngorongoro crater floor is made up of swamps, lakes, forests, springs, grassland and sandy dunes, making for an unforgettable wildlife experience. Spend the evening at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 5: Turn Back Time at Olduvai Gorge


After breakfast take a drive around the rim of the crater as you head for the Serengeti or "endless plains that go up to the sky".

Stop off at Olduvai Gorge where humanoid remains of Australapithicus Boisei, an early form of man, were found in 1959.

Continue into the Serengeti National Park where you'll arrive just in time for lunch. Meet your guide and go on an afternoon game drive, before spending the evening sitting next to a warm fire and listening to the sounds of the wild.

Days 6-7: See it All in the Serengeti


The Serengeti is the jewel in the crown of Tanzania's protected areas and you have 2 more days to explore this incredible region at your leisure.

Choose between morning, afternoon and full day safaris. Round off your days enjoying dinner under the African star-filled sky, while sharing stories of your exciting game experiences.

Day 8: Say Goodbye to Tanzania


Wake up early and go on one last game drive in the Serengeti before enjoying a delicious breakfast and making your way home after an adventure-filled journey.
